About Alex Penny...
Alex Penny has amassed a vast amount of coaching experience, covering many roles at 5 football league clubs. During his coaching career, Alex has worked with some of the top male and female players in the United Kingdom, from Russ Howarth (Bradford City), Lee Camp (Q.P.R), Chris Weale (Bristol City), Emily Westwood (Everton), Matt Murray (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Jimmy Haarhoff (Birmingham City) Amy McCann (Birmingham City), Kevin Francis (Stockport County), Naomi Bruton (Wolverhampton Wanderers), to Paul Gascoigne (Everton) Tonton Zola Moukoko (Derby County).
Alex has also gained valuable experience from many coaches in his time, but he credits Bobby Mimms, the Blackburn Rovers Goalkeeping coach, Dennis Mortimer Aston Villa's European Cup winning captain and Alan Hodgkinson Oxford United's legendry goalkeeping coach for the progression he has made as a coach.
Alex has given many seminars and written extensively on coaching. In 2002, he had his first coaching book published. "Goalkeeping Essentials" was developed for the club coach in mind, understanding that many coaching sessions take place without goalkeeping training.
The book covers warm up, cool down, goalkeeper specific training sessions, outfield objectives and technical breakdown.
Alex holds many coaching qualifications including the UEFA 'A' coaching licence, and Goalkeeping 'A' Licence Diploma. Alex returned to Bristol City (his first club) to take up the position of academy goalkeeping coach in 2006, where he works with his physiotherapist wife Emma
